Lean in 15 and why I was wrong about Joe Wicks

Man do I hate being proven wrong! Or those annoying times when I feel like I have to “take it back” but I will hold my hands up and say that Joe Wicks from The Body Coach is a legend.

I started following Joe on Instagram but left his account last year. I’m not a fan of body transformations taking up my news feed and quite frankly some of his videos were kind of annoying. I couldn’t work out whether I LOVED him or HATED him. (Disclaimer: obviously I would never hate him – what he is doing is unreal I just didn’t want to hear screaming little trees at 7am which is when I am usually scrolling through my feed).

The other weekend I was waiting in kings cross to grab a train back to the folks house when I spotted his book in WHSmith. I had a flick through and surprisingly loved the simplicity of it. So I took the plunge and bought it. I read tonnes of it on the train and loved it even more. Most of my healthy eating books are vegan – but I’m not. Joes book on the other hand was so so accessible and slightly tweaked every day recipes to make them healthier.

When I got back to London I started trying out some of his recipes and I have to tell you – I am hooked! It is now my go to book for a little insp when I am doing my weekly shop. I am buying ingredients like tuna steak and duck breasts which rarely featured on my weekly menu. I am cooking them (in simple recipes) and loving the meals – I will usually cook some extra carbs to keep The Boy happy but he loves it too.

Below are my three absolute favourite recipes from Joes book.

I can’t recommend this book enough so if you haven’t made the purchase I suggest you head out and do it!

Joe’s Chicken Pie

The secret to this is to use Filo pastry!! Its unreal and will please everyone and anyone you cook for.


Tuna Steak with Mango Salsa

1 Tuna Steak

salt and pepper

1 tbsp coconut oil

2 spring onions

2 tbsp tinned black eyed beans (I skipped these because I dont like them and used other beans instead)

1 avocado

1/2 mango

1 small tomato

1 tbsp olive oil

juice of 1 lime

bunch of coriander


Duck, Green beans and Walnuts

I havent made this look pretty but lets face it – not all food is intagram worthy.  It is however delicious.  I served with baby potatoes because I LIKE CARBS.

1 tbsp olive oil

240g duck breast fillet

salt and pepper

100g green beans

1 tbsp walnut oil

40g walnuts

2 tbsp sundried tomatoes
