We have all heard of spin right (if you haven’t there is a slight chance that you are actually looking for a coffee website with a similar name….whoops, but read on anyway because I am about to tell you all about Boom Cycle).
I did my first ever class in the Fitness First in Bondi, Sydney in 2010. Sydney is one of these places that you cant help but fall in love with having a tanned, toned bod and eating ridiculously healthy food. I mean no one wants to tuck into shepherds pie after an afternoon of surfing and 40 degree heat…..Sydney got me hooked on spin.
Once back in London I fell I love with my weekly spin class in the Swiss Cottage Virgin Active. More so because it was lead by a hunky Brazilian who played Latino music and massively flirted with us all – it was so much fun. Once he left and moved back to Brazil I was left with a void in my life that no spin instructor could fill. Other spin classes just didn’t get me as excited and were a little bit boring……….im really not a fan of techno dance music and if I go to a spin class that doesn’t have songs I know or can at least sing along to in my head then I’m going to be bored.
Recently I have seen so much traffic on my social media regarding specific spin studios around London that were meant to be incredible…….I then started to follow a spin instructor, Muireann Carey-Campbell, on social media (she has an awesome blog….bangsandabun.com…..check it out) and just HAD to go to her spin class.
Thankfully she teachers at Boom Cycle. Their Holborn studio is so so close to my office that doing a Tuesday morning spin class is ideal timing wise. I signed up for their intro offer which is £20 for either 3 peak classes or 4 morning classes. Absolute bargain.
So I set my alarm for 6am on Tuesday, had oats soaking in coconut milk overnight (thanks Deliciously Ella) and the gym kit ready to make a swift get away from my bed. I love morning cardio because it just wakes me up and makes me feel like I’ve achieved something. I got to the studio for about 7:20 and was greeted by the reception staff who had so much energy you would be forgiven for thinking it was 6pm on a Friday. The facilities of the studio are great – lockers provided, towels, juice bar, showers……basically you aren’t left wanting anything.
So the actual spin class – I chose to wear my own Asics trainers but you can ask for clippys and the front desk (unfort in a flipping disaster in clips). Bang got us moving literally from the first minute. She has so much energy that i totally forgot it was so early in the morning. The studio is nice and dark and the music is LOUD. Music that was right up my street and got us all in the mood from hip hop classics to Christina’s Fighter. Song after song, every time I was like ‘yes such a good tune’ and pushed myself harder for it. Bang herself is so cool and fun……the type of girl who, once you meet, you automatically want to be her best friend and secretly long to be a cool as her.
45 minutes later and I can safely say it was one of the best spin classes ive ever been to – it will now and hopefully forever be a regular Tuesday morning wake up call!!
